Plug-in or hack to improve browsing uploaded images in the admin panel?

I’m looking for a way to better handle image uploads in the admin panel. I find it very annoying that the native browser window (just below the visual editor) only displays a few thumbnails at a time. If you have a folder with, say, 60 or 70 images, you have to click “next” a lot of times to find the image you are looking for. I would like to be able to either customize this (for example, tell the browser I’d like to see 25 thumbnails at a time) or install a better way to browse images for insertion into posts and pages.

You should know that I’ve installed the NextGen gallery plugin, which is very nice on the user-end, but kind of convoluted and confusing on the back-end.

So I don’t want a *gallery* plug-in (for the front end) — just a better way to browse images from the back end.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a good plug-in or hack to do this?
