I installed Strong Testimonials to try and as of now, I don’t need anything this complex.

However, upon trying to uninstall the plug-in, I’m stuck in a loop. I can’t seem to completely remove references to ST.

WordPress says it has deactivated the plugin because the file does not exist. However, it is still activated.

If I Deactivate: The WordPress error message remains and I cannot find any way to remove it.

If I uninstall (choosing Delete All Data): I receive a WordPress error message that takes down my entire site. The only option I have is to go into CPanel and manually remove the Strong Testimonials plug-in from wp-content > plugins.

However, this does NOT remove the warning from the Plugin page within Admin.

I have tried to reinstall the plugin, but as soon as it downloads, it again locks me out of my website and I am forced to go back to CPanel to manually remove the plug-in folder.

I want to know, how can I completely remove all references to Strong Testimonials?

Here is the entry from the error_log file:

    [16-Aug-2022 16:26:16 UTC] WordPress database error Table ‘pathof_wp623.wpbn_strong_views’ doesn’t exist for query SELECT * FROM wpbn_strong_views ORDER BY id ASC made by require_once(‘wp-admin/admin.php’), require_once(‘wp-load.php’), require_once(‘wp-config.php’), require_once(‘wp-settings.php’), do_action(‘init’), WP_Hook->do_action, WP_Hook->apply_filters, Strong_Gutemberg->generate_js_vars, wpmtst_get_views

    Hello @jeromyk,

Thanks for reaching out to us!

Can you please send us a screenshot with the plugin’s files after you tried to delete it?

    Thank you,
    Beatrice.

    Hello @beatrice12,

I don’t fully understand which plugin files you would like a screenshot of. There are no plug-in files. Using the cPanel File Manager, I was able to fully delete the folder located at wp-content > plugins > Strong-Testimonials.

Here is a screenshot of the wp-content/plugins folder:

However, I can’t seem to find out where WordPress is trying to continue to reference the plugin. From the Admin > Plugin page.

This all started when I hit the “uninstall” link to remove the plug-in. I was instantly given this error message: https://imgur.com/UcbgNgj clicking “Return to Dashboard” did nothing. The only resolution was to manually remove the plugin folder from wp-content/plugins. As you can see, I tried to rename the folder to strong-testimonials.bak – but that didn’t change the website status and gave a secondary error message too.

If I try to reinstall the plug-in from the repository, I can download it and since WordPress thinks it’s still already active I can install it, but it automatically bricks my site, I don’t get the option to “Activate” — showing the same error message above.

The only resolution is to again, remove the plug-ins folder manually.

How and where can I remove all references to the plug-in so WordPress is not forever going to show me the warning message on the Plugins page in Admin?

    Hey @jeromyk ,

This is really awkward, we can’t manage to replicate it and haven’t faced with this bug before. Did you try to manually download it and upload it through the dashboard > Plugins > Add new > Upload plugin ? Can’t tell if this was the method you tried to install it again or not.

    Warmly,
    Razvan

    Hello @razvan

I had not tried that, so I just gave it a go.

Upon downloading the plugin and installing it, I receive this error message:

I had to manually delete the plugin to regain access to my website.

Really strange. And does the notice regarding deactivating the plugin still occur?

Upon installing the plugin, it appears WordPress thinks it’s still activated. So once I install it, it’s activated, site crashes. I never can get to the Admin Plugin site to Deactivate.

Install > Crash > Manually Delete.

Is it possible to give us the error log so we can have a look?

Also, could you try to clear the cache? Maybe something got stuck up there.

I assume this is the error log you need, if it is something else, please let me know.

@razvan I had tried a Purge All on the cache before and that did not change the wordpress status.

However, I did just deactivate every plugin and logged out. Upon returning the messages were gone…

    So *resolved*.

    Sorry for all the trouble.
