I’ve run through 10 different approaches, none seem to do what I want, so I thought I better just ask.
I want to limit multisite admins’ access to confusing menu items on the Dashboard, so submenu items don’t appear, and they can’t screw up their sites.
For example, I don’t want a grandma to get confused with Plugins, or Tools, or Links, or Appearance > Editor (while allowing access to Appearance > Themes).
I wouldn’t think this is an unusual request…?
What is the best way to do it?
There are multiple options. You can use a plugin to remove the menus from site, or you can make them not admins by Editors.
Turning off plugins is easy: /wp-admin/network/settings.php
Uncheck “Enable administration menus” for plugins.
