  • Hi,

I had installed the WP in xampplite server and it did work as per expectation. However, I would like to know how do I change or move from
    http://localhost/ to

Do I need to host it in some other web hosting? Or can I jus change the name of localhost (in the host file and URI) and then post my blog site to ODP and make it available to be search for?

My main purpose is to have my site to go online.

I’ve read some of the previous post already, but it is not leading me to anywhere after I’ve tried out some of the solutions.

Please help me out in my learning process.

    Thank You

  • Typically you would find a company to handle your hosting and install WordPress there. Click on the Hosting link at the top of this screen for a list of several hosts.

Once you have your domain registered and running, then you could follow directions in Moving WordPress or use the Export/Import ability to take content from your localhost to your new blog.

Once installed, as long as you uploaded it to the root directory., and not You should be able to go to and have the setup pages and be ready to go. I guess I could be wrong if your host is funky in some way.
    Hope that helped.

    Okay. Thanks alot. =)

But just let me clarify that, this means I will need to register for a web host service right?

Therefore, if I do not register for the service and I just leave all my WP files in “htdoc” and rename my http://localhost/ to Then, will you be able to access it from your side (just like accessing a website)?

Sorry I’ve got a little bit confused.

You need to register a domain name (what you call “mysite”) AND subscribe to a hosting service, yes.
Otherwise only you will see it on your computer.
WP is no different than any other website: you need your domain + hosting.
