• Hi sir,
If any authority person from the wordpress is seeing this post then i want to tell something and need some improvements.
I visit your forum and try to contribute or get help from the forum but the forum look is very strange for me. The look is good but for using the forum there is not any interest.
Also there is no information of how many number of forum posts a user has made and is the user is senior or new. so there are no levels. and there is no batch or any value of user who is posting or commenting.
I join the forum about 3 years back. and i come to the forum to look for posts but again i leave it and not come back and this happens many time to me.
I tried to find any other forums related to wordpress but they are not updated as your forum is updating.
Please add some more features to the users. like number of posts users has made which can be visible on every forum post and any type of level you can give like senior level, medium level or beginner.
I know the ui of forum is very big thing to change.
About half of world sites are running on wordpress and the wordpress forum is not so attractive. why is it?
Please change some of this so that i can use the forums regularly and get some level or points or any number of posts i did so i can get more interest and come back and use daily.
Your forum is very informative and if you still not change these then you know i use it also.

I wouldn’t like this labeling of users. I don’t want to be labelled as a beginner, or intermediate or expert. Why should it matter if you’re responding to threads that can be understood by a wider range of people? Going on, I wouldn’t like people to know how many posts I’ve made either. Maybe this can be to keep a personal record, but why have it visible to others?

Number of posts is a very bad way to judge things like this. as an example…

User A has 15 years programming PHP, and 5 years of dedicated WordPress knowledge. They don’t frequent the forums often, but post good answers to questions that they know about, in total around 30 posts over the last year.

User B knows only very basic PHP, has just set up WordPress to play around with, and has an ego that tells them that they got that far, so they are the master! They get on the forums and ask 50 questions about the bascis of how to get a site up and running. After that they think they know it all, so the go and post 200 replies to questions where their answers vary between not quite so good all the way to off-topic and useless.

Just as a note, these examples are meant as examples only and are not meant to refelct any actual person on these forums. 🙂

Looking at total posts would have people think that user B is better as they have a lot more posts… when the opposite is actually true. That’s where that whole idea falls down very badly, and it does happen a lot.

Rankings work the same way. They either need to be automatic, where some arbitrary value like number of posts is the way that ranks are decided, or they have to be done manually, which leads to more work for the moderators, and does leave the system open to a whole lot of “hey, I know my stuff, why don’t I get an ‘expert’ tag????” threads from people that think that they deserve more recognition.

thanks very much for your commments. I think the forum is working fine. you are right the number of posts not reflect any expertise.
