i'm working locally on my website, and whenever i make changes to my header.php file, it's as if i never made the change. the site doesn't update any changes. i can even delete everything from the file, and my header still appears.

has this ever happened to anyone and how did you fix it?

please help, i need this layout to be finished by tonight!!!

you are quite likely editing a wrong theme or directory.

what method are you using to edit the files?

  3. I've never had this happen before. Do you have a caching plugin installed? Perhaps it's the one that's causing havoc.

Or are you using a caching plugin like WP Super Cache and you need to turn off caching and clear the cache to see the changes?

When I'm doing dev work, I usually turn off caching and clear the cache to make sure I can see my changes (depending on the plugin, turning off cache might not be enough, and you really do need to clear the cache).

i'm not sure that cacheing is the problem, i disabled and deleted all the plugins jsut to make sure one of them wasn't messing things up.

it's so strange, everything else works fine. i've always editing this theme like this, but for some reason, my header.php file seems to be completely unaffected. as if the theme isn't pulling from that file at all! no idea...

one way to test is remove the header.php file entirely and see if the theme then throws errors

thank you to everyone who responded, i sincerely appreciate you reaching out.

i'm an idiot, and somehow i had a copy of the theme file within the original file. so everytime i edited any layouts, it would just pull from the other file, and it wouldn't change anything.

    it works now, thank you!
