• Hi Folks,

Please bare with me here, I may come across as if I don’t know what I’m talking about [and that’s ‘cos I don’t!]. I shall try to explain as well as I can.

I had/have a blog at http://www.stalknslash.blogspot.com but I wanted to change it to a wordpress account as I like the wordpress themes. I exported it and imported it to WordPress, then I realised that I needed Worldpress.org, not Worldpress.com so I signed up for webhosting with Godaddy and they installed WordPress automatically for me.

So far so good. I directed my url [which is not purchased through godaddy] to my wordpress blog at http://www.stalknslashonline.wordpress.com maybe this is where I’ve gone wrong. In the WordPress installation set up on Godaddy I told them that the url for wordpress was http://www.stalknslash.com. Did I do wrong? I don’t know!

Anyway, I uploaded the theme I wanted into Godaddy into the wordpress/wp-admin/themes folder [it was a zip file].

When I log onto WordPress [which is still .com rather than .org] this theme is not in the themes folder.

Now I know all of the above makes me look stupid, but I just need some kind person with s bit of knowhow to help me by giving me instructions that even a smipleton could understand.

Godaddy’s support are not very helpful [they’ve probably never dealt with such a numbskull before] All I want is a Worpress.org account witht he arras theme installed onto it. I’ve spent a lot of money int he last 24 hours and I stil have the old WordPress.com account and no themes!

    Please help me.

    Deb x

  • Godaddy should have provided you with their DNS servers. You will need to login to the account where you have your domain name registered and set it to resolve to those Godaddy DNS servers. Once you do that, it could take up to 48 hours to propogate before you see your site on Godaddy.

    Hi Deb x,

figaro is correct. If you want to direct your domain to your hosting account with Go Daddy, you’ll need to update your nameservers at your current registrar to point to your hosting account with us. Please see this help article for more nameserver information and more details -http://help.godaddy.com/article/664

As for your theme, that should be uploaded to the wordpress/wp-content/themes. Here’s the help article that steps you through the upload process using the File Manager: http://help.godaddy.com/article/5234

This will get you started. Learning new software definitely takes some time!
