 * Please elaborate your issue more, we will try to give you a solution here.
 * What I understood is that you do not want to click set featured image button 
   after clicking on the image to set featured image, right?
 * Basically, it is a good practice to give users options like this because suppose
   you have clicked on the wrong image and it gets selected then again you have 
   to click on remove featured image and then set featured image link to come back
   on this panel so easy will be to give such UI but I will find you a solution.
