• Hello. My site was running fine with zero issues until I installed duplicator it seems. I also updated a lot of plugins and what not which may have cause some issue.

Sometimes when visiting the site, I get a big BITDEFENDER warning, and it reports in the client ‘Web Threat Blocked’ ‘ Infected Web Resource’

Sometimes it blames the ‘admin-ajax.php’, sometimes the ‘async-upload.php’, and I just had an error blaming a long string of numbers after I tried to reset the ajax.php. I don’t fully understand what’s going on.

This is fairly serious and I need it fixed… I have been troubleshooting for some time now and am hoping for some help here. Any received would be greatly appreciated.

Sucuri’s sitecheck.sucuri.net does not show anything. I’d suspect BitDefender is wrong.

When I installed sucuri, it told me the core files had been modified. Bit defender didn’t give me any warnings until just recently.

    What can I do?

Oh, that’s another matter. If a core file is modified, you’ve been hacked.

Get a fresh cup of coffee, take a deep breath and carefully follow this guide. When you’re done, you may want to implement some (if not all) of the recommended security measures.

If you’re unable to clean your site(s) successfully, there are reputable organizations that can clean your sites for you. Sucuri and Wordfence are a couple.

Many thanks for the response. I actually read that one someone else’s post when I was trying to troubleshoot.

Have I definitely been hacked? It’s a new site. I’m so gutted and still at a bit of a loss…

How about installing WordFence and doing a scan with that?

    Thread Starter luxtools

    (@luxtools)

Sorry I had it installed but hadn’t actually done a scan yet. I should have certainly tried that before responding or posting as it seems to be efficient. It has found the file during scan and deleted it which is great. Hopefully it is fixed!

Maybe a pointless post but hope it may help someone in future.

Thanks for your replies!! :)) I’ll update if the issue persists.

Ok the problem persisted and after troubleshooting, I hired a professional and he seems to think it is a false positive. How strange.
