My client's site was hacked getting Malware messages on alll her pages. Hostgator sent the message below. I'm not a coder so can you tell me:
    1) what scripts are and especially the "outdated scripts"?
    2) How to update plugins. Do you just hit update or do you have to reinstall?

"I have cleaned the malicious code from your script files. Unfortunately I am unable to pinpoint how this compromise occurred as it took place over a month ago:

However, this most likely happened due to your out of date wordpress installations. Outdated scripts are commonly vulnerable to attack and are targeted by hackers. You will want to update these, and also update plugins used by these scripts. You should also keep these up to date to prevent future attacks: "

Nice of Hostgator to clean the script files (and a little unbelievable).

    What is the URL?

You can update plugins automatically in the dashboard, plugins.

The WP version is out of date. There are errors here, http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http%3a%2f%2fwww.roadtoemotionalfreedom.com%2f

    See this, http://codex.wordpress.org/Hardening_WordPress

And just a wild guess but most likely everyone on the server you are on got hacked. That is why Hostgator responded as they did which is a good thing - many hosts deny any responsibility.

Now it is your turn to make it harder for this to happen again.

We updated the version and the plugins and Hostgator recleaned the site.
When we make changes to content the text all becomes courier
I can't see anything in the html to cause this. I copied it into a new page with the same results.
