I have been working to localize a website into fr_CA.

It would be helpful if you could copy the existing fr_FR translations into fr_CA, so that a site configured to use fr_CA will get some useful French translations (not English).

For reference, I accomplished this locally by using the following commands:

    cd wp-content/plugins/events-manager/includes/langs
    cp events-manager-fr_FR.po events-manager-fr_CA.po

edit events-manager-fr_CA.po and change Language (line 15) to read:
    "Language: fr_CA\n"

    msgfmt events-manager-fr_CA.po -o events-manager-fr_CA.mo

OK, thanks. I went there and imported the fr_FR po file under fr_CA. I hope that I’ve done it right and that a translation editor will approve the updates at some point.

    EM user here.

That is indeed the way to do it.
At the plugin site where you uploaded the file, on the right you see who can approve the translations for Events Manager.

If you send them a message, they will most likely approve it quicker

Hi, I’m one of the GTE for the fr_CA locale.

I will take a look tomorrow at the translated strings and review/approve as much as possible. But I need to let you know that fr_CA has a number of different terms and expressions (as can be seen in our glossary ; https://translate.wordpress.org/locale/fr-ca/default/glossary) and that translating to fr_CA is not a simple matter of copying the fr_FR content 😉

Also, right now, the project shows the following stats :

    • All (1,487)
    • Untranslated (146)
    • Waiting (1,308)

We need to reach a threshold of 90% approved translations for the translation to automatically be sent to fr_CA users, but even if I approved everything, we’d be sitting at 88% (1307/14878)… so you know 🙂

Thank-you Jean-Francois. Yes, I realize that fr_FR and fr_CA are not the same, and that achieving a true fr_CA translation will require more work. But this is hopefully a useful starting point. Thank you for any efforts and assistance you are able to provide.
