Hi – I’m trying to evaluate if Mandrill with Mandrill Multisite is a viable solution for our business.

We provide a WordPress multisite blogging platform with subdomain sites. We currently have about 150 sites.

I’m confused on whether all of the subsites would need separate Mandrill accounts or if our main blog API would work throughout the network.

As a test, I network installed the Mandrill/Multisite plugins and setup the main blog which did propogate throughout the network. Then I tried 2 different approaches on a subsite.
    1. Did not change API but inserted the subsite’s sender info. Results: The test email came through as the main site as sender rather than the sender.
    2. I then created a Mandrill Accout and separate API for the subsite and ran another test. The email still comes through as from the main blog and not the subsite.

What am I missing? Without Mandrill the server is working fine – it is the blocking that I am trying to solve. What is the easiest way to effectively and efficiently use Mandrill on a multisite?

    Hello Kathy,

The wpMandrill Multisite plugin is intended to only extend the wpMandrill plugin in order to propagate its settings throughout all subsites that don’t have any specific wpMandrill settings. As far as I understand from your message, this has worked properly for you.

I suggest that you refer to the Other Notes tab of the plugin, and specifically the Getting Started section: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wpmandrill-multisite/other_notes/

Just to clarify, after you setup the wpMandrill settings in the main site, these settings will be automatically be propagated to the subsites that have no Mandrill settings specified. And if you need, you can then manually override the wpMandrill settings for each site.

In case your issue is outside of the purpose of this plugin, it should probably be reported in the wpMandrill plugin support page.

Not sure if I was able to help you, so please, let me know if you have any other questions or troubles.

    Hi Marin,
Thank you for the quick reply. This is a very confusing subject.
I guess the problem in my test is that the over-ride did not work and the main site info is still being used by Mandrill.

    Hi Kathy,

I’ve conducted several tests on separate new and existing installations with new and existing subsites, and everything worked correctly. As expected, wpMandrill settings are propagated throughout all subsites that don’t have wpMandrill settings specified. And all subsites that have wpMandrill settings are not touched anymore, and you can override these settings.

I have a slight feeling that your wpMandrill in the main site is not configured properly. Basically, if you have an incorrect mandrill API key specified, this will result in wpMandrill failure, defaulting to the default WordPress behavior.

Another possibility is that you have some other plugins enabled (or custom theme code) that cause conflict with the mailing functionality.

I guess I’ll need some more information, as I can only guess what is happening at your side.

Can you please provide me with additional information about the issue? I’d need the following:

    1. A list of all of your plugins installed
    2. The name of the theme that you’re using (if not custom)
    3. Detailed steps that you followed in order to conduct tests and replicate the issue
    4. Additional information about the results that you receive when conducting your test

    Hey Kathy,

Were you able to resolve your issue? Do you still need help with anything, related with this plugin?

    Hi Marin,
I just migrated to another hosting provider over the last couple of weeks which did not run as smoothly as I had hoped.

I need to now focus on mail again. Do you work as a consultant? I am trying to determine which approach to use to get the highest probability of mail getting through and having the opened info that Mandrill could provide would be great.

    Hi Kathy,

I guess your inquiry is more general than being related with this plugin. So probably the support forum of this plugin is not the best place for your question.

And yes, I offer WordPress consultant services, however the rules of this support forum forbid posting of any contact information or requesting paid services: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/forum-rules-please-read-before-posting.

So if you have further interest, you might want to have a look at my wordpress.org profile (clicking my avatar would lead you there), where my public website URL is displayed.

I’m now closing this topic as resolved.
