You can already prevent users from creating subgroups when you create a group. What kind of restriction are you looking for?

I want that user can create groups and subgroups but not subgroups under subgroups. Only one “level” of subgroups under a “root” group.
And what would be really cool is if I could “approve” group creation. So if a user create a group it is just “pending” and I would have to approve it. I can not find a plugin for this…
+1 for default non changeable “nobody” selection for who can create group members, in subgroup creation process.

Admin approval of new groups would be great, but that’s way beyond the scope of this plugin. Surprised to hear there isn’t any a plugin for that but I just don’t have time right now to even see what it would take. :/

You can use the bp_group_hierarchy_subgroup_permission_options filter to limit the options for who can create subgroups. It passes the current group object as a 2nd parameter.
