And also in your example “Hero — Soft (autoplay, reading-time paced)”: Every mousover, anywhere on the slide (even on the Prev- Next-arrows), toggles the button status.
The toggling between the statuses PLAY and PAUSE should only happen when the user moves the mouse over the actual button.
Hello tonfarbe,
Thank you so much for the detailed report, and specially for taking the effort to test it on our own showcase site also — that helped me to reproduce both the issues quickly.
You are right on both points, and both had the same root cause. The Pause/Play button was reading its state from the internal autoplay timer. But that same timer is also cleared for a moment whenever the mouse enters any part of the carousel (this is the hover-pause behaviour required by WCAG 2.2.2). Because of this, the button was showing “Play” on first load (the label was set just before autoplay started), and every mouseover anywhere on the slide — even on the Prev/Next arrows — was flipping the label, exactly as you described in your second post.
I have released version 2.7.4 with the fix. Now the button shows only the state which the visitor has chosen: it says “Pause” from the moment the carousel loads with autoplay, and it changes only when you press the button itself (or stop the slideshow using the arrows, dots or keyboard, which by design stops auto-rotation). Hovering still quietly pauses the rotation as WCAG requires, but it does not touch the button any more.
While fixing this, the same root cause was hiding one more issue which is also solved now — earlier, clicking “Pause” while the mouse was inside the carousel could actually restart the slideshow instead of stopping it.
Please update the plugin to 2.7.4 and kindly let me know if you still face any problem. Thanks once again for helping to make the plugin better and more accessible for everyone.
Thanks.
Hello Shivaji,
thanks a lot for the fast fix! I updated the plugin and now the Play/Pause button acts as expected.
However, now there’s another strange behaviour. When the user moves the mouse over the slide, the animation stops. I was irritated until I realized that this is a “pause-on-hover” feature.
In my case this is a problem because I have a fullwidth/fullheight carousel. So every mouse movement of the user stops the animation and without scrolling the page, the position of the mouse will always be over the carousel. The exception is the scroll-down icon on the bottom. When the user moves the mouse there, the stopped animation will start playing after a few seconds.
This is not a big problem, but on a fullwitdth/fullheight carousel a bit irritating.
Is there a way to disable the “pause-on-hover” feature?
Or maybe time the “play-on-mouseleave” a bit faster?
Thanks again.
Hello tonfarbe,
Very happy to hear that the Play/Pause button is working as expected now. Thank you for confirming.
And you have raised a very valid point again. On a normal carousel, pause-on-hover is a helpful behaviour, but on a fullwidth/fullheight carousel like yours the mouse is nearly always over the slides, so the rotation stays paused almost permanently. You are completely right.
I have just released version 2.7.5 with a new option for exactly this. In the block settings sidebar, under the Autoplay section, you will now find a “Pause on mouse hover” toggle. It is ON by default (so nothing changes for existing carousels), but for your fullheight hero you can simply turn it OFF — then mouse movement will not stop the animation at all.
Two things I have kept as they are, purposely, so the accessibility is not weakened: keyboard focus still pauses the rotation (content must never rotate away from under a keyboard user’s focus), and the visible Pause/Play button always remains, so every visitor still has a way to stop the movement (WCAG 2.2.2). Visitors who prefer reduced motion also continue to get no autoplay at all.
About your other suggestion — the resume after mouseleave is not actually a delay timer; it simply waits for the full time of the current slide before advancing (with reading-time pacing this can be a few seconds). With the new toggle turned OFF this will not matter for you any more, but if you still feel the timing needs tuning after trying 2.7.5, please tell me, I am happy to look further.
Please update to 2.7.5, switch the new toggle off on your hero carousel, and kindly let me know how it goes. Thanks once again — both of your reports have directly made the plugin better for everyone.
Hello Shivaji,

I am greatly impressed by your fast response time and the great service and communication.
Your plugin(s) are now on my must-use list for upcoming website projects.
Hello tonfarbe,
Thank you so much for confirming, and for your kind words — it really made my day. Comments like yours are the reason I enjoy building these accessibility plugins.
Since you found the plugin and the support useful, may I request one small favour? If you could spare two minutes to leave a 5-star rating and a few words as a review, it would help me a lot — reviews are the main way other users discover that this accessible carousel is actively maintained and supported. You can post it here:
