# pingomatic and example

 * I am looking at settings > writing and i see
    example.com for mail server and
   pingomatic for update services
 * i didnt write those
    are they default? should they stay there? do they have benefit?
   if so what? or should i delete them?

 * Those are the defaults. 🙂
 * `example.com` for the mail server, just to illustrate what goes there.
 * Ping-o-Matic for the update service because it pings multiple sites that still
   accept pings: [http://pingomatic.com/](http://pingomatic.com/) (in the old days,
   it pinged somewhere around 25 different services, but most have closed down over
   the years).
 * I recommend leaving both as-is, unless you plan to operate your own mail server.
