Pinging woes with 1.2

    I just installed WP1.2 and I have to say, I’m more than happy with it.. 🙂 Smooth installation, great new interface and features, everything is great.
    Except that I have some problem with the ping. I am pinging Ping-o-Matic, which works amazingly fine and smooth, but I also (try to) ping the German service blogg.de and this does not work. Is that maybe a problem with their ping-url, which includes a lot of ? and & and %3A and other special characters?
    Maybe someone knows a quick fix around that problem?

    Their ping url could probably be the culprit. Try to visit their site again and see if they somehow changed their ping url to something simpler.

    I can’t even get ping-o-matic to work. Maybe I am doing this all wrong from the beginning. All you do is put the url in the options>>writings>> section in the admin interface?

    “Separate multiple URIs by line breaks.” That doesnt apply to me since i am going to ping that one only. Could someone please help.

    Update: I can not send and Pingbacks and Trackbacks. I do receive them, though.
    What do I do wrong? Or what does my webhost do wrong? Or what does WP do wrong?

    My German is very poor, but I will say that as far as I could tell, the xml-rpc interface for that german site is http://xmlrpc.blogg.de
    Honestly, I’m not an expert as to how the ping works with this software, but I leave that url for smarter people coming by whose German is even worse than mine (hardly possible. Get the site ping information from http://blogg.de/extras.php – it’s in german.)
    You could always put that xmlrpc site in your ping section and see if it works.
    I’ll leave it for the smart people to figure things out. I best not start speculating.

    Thanks so very much.. that’s the solution.. 🙂 I was messing around for ages with the stuff shown on this page: http://blogg.de/ping.php and totally forgetting abot the xmlrpc-page.. shame on me..
    Now, even if it might sound greedy, does someone know the solution for ping- and trackback? 😉

    I’m glad if I can help.
    Hopefully someone will eventually help out with your trackback. My commenting helps keep this post on the first page of topics.
    Just to make sure you are using trackback correctly, in which case it’s a user-error instead of a technical error, make sure you put the trackback URI in the trackback URI spot, which is seen directly under the post body. For example, to trackback to one of my posts, use this one .

    Feel free to do this to test.
    Pingback, I believe, works more easily, You just link to a permalink in your entry body and make the sure the box marked “PingBack the URIs in this post” is checked.
    For pingback to work, the weblog you’re pinging obviously has to be set up correctly. Feel free to try to pingback http://www.arghnoname.com/archives/2004/05/20/28/ to test your pingback ability.
    Technically I’ve never been pingbacked or trackbacked, but I assume they’re working on my site.
    I apologize is this is a little too basic for you. If you get any warnings or other indications that trackback, etc aren’t working, you should post that information here.

    Thanks.. 😉 I knew the basics, but no offense what so ever taken. I just tried to pingback your site and it worked. I tried to pingback other WordPress 1.2 pages before and it didn’t work. Sucky deal. I guess it’s just one of those mysteries of the web..
