    Hi all!
I run 2 blogs, plus I installed 2 new ones for testing purposes.

The 2 blogs I run started not sending (and probably not receiving) pingbacks from other sites at the beginning of may.

I looked for anything and found no solution, now I found that the 2 new testing-blogs (plain 2.9.2 intallation with default theme and no plugins) are not sending/receiving pingbacks either… any idea?

Also, I noticed they both are now missing schedules, I found this was a common issue with 2.9.0 due to cron.php and then was resolved, but my cron.php looked the same as in that common issue, so I hacked the file a couple of days ago with no positive outcome.

    Any help is appreciated!
    Thanks in advance!!
    Fabrizio

Just would like to add… I have the same problem also with fresh install on xampp, so it’s not a hosting problem 🙁

ANY HELP WOULD BE REEEEEEEEEEEALLY appreciated!!!! REALLY! 🙂

my bad! After hours of troubleshooting I found the problem actually WAS the hosting.

Also for an unlucky combination the timezone settings prevented my local xampp installation from working properly, which kind of made me struggle to find a solution!

anyway… check if your hosting service for some reason is banning access to http://yoursite.com/wp-cron.php
(in my case opening that page redirects me to some advertising).
If they don’t ban the access to that file, you should see a blank page that takes a few seconds to load completely.

having access to that file is vital for both scheduling posts and sending pingbacks.

    Hope this helps 🙂

All solved, my provider removed the restriction, I think it wasn’t done purposely, not sure but when I told them the problem was with accessing a file they replyed asking to try again, and when I did I could access the file.

As a matter of interest, since wp-cron.php was not accessible, but any other file was, I tried to copy wp-cron.php into wp-cron-tempworkaround.php and that flushed all my scheduled jobs. Unfortunately it needs to be called manually, so it’s not much of a workaround unless you go and edit wp-includes/cron.php to call wp-cron-tempworkaround.php instead of wp-cron.php (note: I found cron.php is the only file that calls wp-cron.php in wordpress 2.9.2 -although plugins may call it too, I suppose)
