Hoping someone in the lovely WP community can help me with this. I disable pingbacks by default — the ones I get are almost always spam, so I just don’t like to bother with ’em. I already had the annoying experience of upgrading to 2.0, which re-enabled pingbacks on all my older posts; rather than going through 400+ older posts, I just turn off pingbacks on individual posts as I get spam there.
Recently, though, I got a pingback on a newer post where I had disabled pingbacks!
Fortunately, it wasn’t spam (for once), but it’s still a disturbing development. Here’s the post on my blog:
The pingback shows up as comment 93. I’m looking at this post’s “Write Post” screen in my WordPress control panel right now and “Allow pings” is very clearly unchecked.
Here’s the post that creates the ping back:
What is going on here? Do I have a basic misunderstanding of what a pingback is?
Thanks in advance for any help anyone can offer.
