Really oddly, I’ve just started receiving email notifications for posts which have been added to my wordpress site – it seems that the system is alerting me that the post has been added to the site…

I understand the idea of pingbacks, but these seem to be coming back as comments. I*’ve had a search over the forums but cannot seem to locate a similar issue.

Nothing has been installed or changed on the blog over the past few months – other than the upgrade to 3.8.1.

    The email I receive is:

[Moderator note: Please don’t post spam email here.]

    Anyone else receiving similar?

  • It’s called self-pinging.

To stop it, if you post a link to your own site, instead of linking like this:

    <a href="http://example.com/example-post">New Post</a>

    link like this:

    <a href="/example-post">New Post</a>

Alternatively, a plugin like Disabler can take care of that for you.

Brill, thanks for that – I’ll look into it.

It appears on the posts, there are links to other pages on my blog, therefore this would (of course) continue happening going forward.

    Cheers for the advice.
