 * Is there a plugin available that would not send out a ping when you edit a post?

 * If it has already pinged a related post, I do not beleive it will ping it again
   when you click edit post.

 * There’s a checkbox in the edit screen for “notify subscribers” which can be selected
   for “no”. I don’t know if this accomplishes what you’re looking for, since I 
   can’t be bothered with the whole ping/trackback crap, but you might check the
   [codex](http://codex.wordpress.org/codex) to see what this particular function
   comprises.
