• I copied pictures from my old website and put them in the same folder where some pictures I uploaded were. Bu when I try to insert a pictures, none of the copied pictures are available.
Do I need to upload all the pictures I want to use? Or is there a way to make these pictures visible for my new website?
    Thank you,
    Rick

  • Your Media Library inside WordPress has two components:

The folders which store the actual image files (and generated sizes), and the database entries that tell the site which files exist, where the files are located, and all sorts of information about the files.

When you upload an image from inside WordPress, WP handles both parts for you. When you uploaded the images manually, you skipped a lot of the important bits (WordPress creating the database entries and generating additional sizes).

I have seen various plugins over the years try to automatically scan your Folder, look for files that were just uploaded there, and add information to the database so they can be used like your other images, but I haven’t tested them in a long time and can’t vouch for any. But just as an example, here’s one I found by searching (I’ve never used it): https://wordpress.org/plugins/media-sync/

    Hi @rick1mac,
The best way to use old images is to upload them again all in your new site media library. Already @madtownlems explained why it’s not working. Hope you get it.

    Thanks
