Picture optimisation

Hi

So the photos on my blog http://www.myblondereality.com are far too big (I didn’t realise when I was starting out) and now it is causing problems.

I’ve tried both Smush it and Ewww and sadly Smush it didn’t work as my images are over 1mb and Ewww didn’t reduce the files very much.

Is there anything else I can try or do I need to delete everything, resize the photos, re upload and start again?

Also, what is the optimum size for photos on a blog (I like them big and bright) and how is best to re optimise them? I use iPhoto usually.
