Picking Up The Pieces of MySQL Database (1 post)

Many months ago, after I attempted to "upgrade" my 1.5.x installation to 1.6, the whole d*mn thing cratered. I simply had no more access to my blog. I gave it up.

Recently I decided to try hosting it (instead of running it from my dinky li'l server). I did a fresh install of WP on the new host-server, and began setting the whole thing up again from scratch (including re-setting up the old theme which didn't work in Version 2.x any more).

However, I am stumped as to how to import my old database files into the new scheme. For one thing, something scorched MySQL on my server to the extent that the old WordPress database doesn't even show up in MySQL Admin browser any longer.

Now, when I look at the directory listing of /var/lib/mysql/wordpress, I see this:

    -rw-rw---- 1 mysql mysql 8772 Aug 15 2005 wp_categories.frm
    -rw-rw---- 1 mysql mysql 888 Aug 15 2005 wp_categories.MYD

So it looks like the database is all there at least in terms of all the files that make it up (I suppose; it would certainly be helpful if I actually knew something about MySQL).

How can I "dump" all this stuff into my "new" WP setup? On the hosted server I do NOT have access to the database filespace, just to phpMyAdmin. It seems like if I could "export" my databse into a file, send it over to the server and then "import" it--phpMyAdmin seems to support this, that'd do the trick, but with MySQL not even registering the database at all on my server, I have run out of ideas.
