Support » Fixing WordPress » Picking a page template when adding to a custom post type?

We have a WordPress install where a custom post type has been created. We’ve imported legacy content via custom built script and set the page template from our theme for that post type.

Old/Imported items have the page template applied, but newly created items inside WordPress don’t seem to have this “picking” option. Where I would normally see an option to choose the page template to use, we do not see this on the right sidebar.

Any ideas? Maybe there’s a trigger or flag for custom post types that I didn’t see in the documentation. Thanks for your help.

Custom Post Types wouldn’t use Page template files, because Custom Post Types aren’t Page Post Types.

What is the name of your Custom Post Type?

    Assuming it is foobar:

    Foobar Index/Archive Page: archive-foobar.php
    Single Foobar Page: single-foobar.php

These template files are used automatically, if created. Otherwise, they fall back to:

    Foobar Index/Archive Page: archive.php, index.php
    Single Foobar Page: single.php, index.php

Very helpful. Thank you. I went with single-foobar.php and it’s working swell 🙂
