    Hello

I start getting problems with MailPoet as it modifies PHPmailer. The errors popup in at least two other plug-ins. The error message reads:

“Oops! PHPMailer is modified by MailPoet\Mailer\WordPress\WordPressMailer.”

    Questions:
    1. Where does this happen? (Using the MailPoet Sending Service?)
    2. How do I reinstall PHPmailer?

Is there a way to solve this, apart from abandoning MailPoet altogether?

    Karsten

    Hi Karsten,

Sounds like these other plugins may want to modify PHPMailer themselves. Are you using these plugins to set up a sending method for your transactional emails?

I believe you can fix it by disabling MailPoet’s sending option in the MailPoet’s Settings > Advanced tab > Send all site’s emails with…

Please select “the default WordPress sending method” option instead and let us know if it works.

    Hi Bruna

    Thank you for your reply.

The message is clear: MailPoet changed something. Regular emails no longer work. Some other plug-ins rely on sending feedback to the site administrator, for example. It is not for bulk mail, but for regular emails. My questions were: Where does this happen and how can I avoid this from happening (or is it crucial?). This is about understanding what MailPoet is doing, where and why.

I use MailPoet on many sites without problems, but on one site I started using FluentCRM as well. The goal was to combine MailPoet and FluentCRM, where FluentCRM sends emails through Amazon SES.

    Errors pop-up for two plug-ins:
    – FluentCRM
    – iThemes Security.

Both have a test function for some feedback to the site administrator. These are now blocked.

I used MailPoets service and also switched MailPoet to Amazon SES service. That did not correct the problem. I assume that MailPoet changes the PHPMailer, but does not reinstall the original one, if you switch.

Can I replace the PHPMailer without breaking anything?

    Regards

    Hi!

We didn’t change anything in how MailPoet handles PHPMailer in any of our latest updates.

If you configure MailPoet to deliver all WordPress emails, it will define its own PHPMailer instance to capture all emails sent via wp_mail(), and to deliver them with MP3’s own active sending method.

As my colleague Bruna mentioned, this sounds as if the other plugins want to modify PHPMailer themselves.

Disable the sending WordPress emails via MailPoet in Settings > Advanced tab > Send all site’s emails with… and that should fix the problem here. Please note we’re not asking you to switch the whole sending method in the “Send With…” tab, but the transactional emails in the Advanced one.

Please let us know how that goes.

    Hi!

Thank you for your reply! Much appreciated.

For the site in question, I had to deinstall MailPoet, that I could proceed in the design. However, there is a second site coming up soon, with the same constellation. I will try to implement your suggestion.

Almost any site I maintain (for me or customers) has MailPoet installed. I need to figure this out, also for other projects. If I find out more, I will post it here.

    Thank you once again

    Hi there @krisseeuw,

We haven’t heard back from you in a while, so I’m going to mark this as resolved – if you have any further questions, you can start a new thread.
