[Resolved] Php syntax error, cannot access dashboard or FTP

  • I was having trouble with the cache plugin so I temporarily disabled it to fix an issue, and after I did I found I was unable to view or edit my site or dashboard. I only see a warning message that there is a syntax error at line 40

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_CONSTANT_ENCAPSED_STRING, expecting ‘)’ in /hermes/bosoraweb046/b23/ipg.torontoscreenprintsu/wp-content/themes/propulsion/functions.php on line 40

(and I believe I know the one, although I was sure I’d edited it out and saved previously, but cannot correct it)

I’m working on this site for another company and want to get it back up as soon as possible.

  • The only way you can fix this is through ftp, or if your host as a web explorer view. You have a missing ) on line 40.

I should also add that I’m attempting to reach and edit the file via FTP but am receiving ‘cannot connect to server’ errors stating that I have the wrong password. Isn’t the one you use to log into wordpress the one though?

I can find out from my boss but I don’t think she’ll like it…

No, FTP is not part of WordPress – you need to get the access info from the hosting company.

I let my boss know and she sent en e-mail to the guy that set up the site, should hear back from him by tomorrow. Hopefully he can help me out

Right now I think he’s saying the ftp info was changed, although I don’t see how it could’ve been. This is the first time I’ve touched the php of the site, and the only password I have is the one used to log into wordpress.

There’s really not much we can do to help you with FTP questions…you’ll need to talk to the hosting company. FTP access info isn’t generally the same as WP login – unless someone happened to set it up that way.

I think he just went and fixed it himself, thanks anyway
