PHP memory profiling (2 posts)

Recently I encountered the default PHP memory limit of my host (8MB), which I worked around by modifying my htaccess file. In order to reduce my load on the server I would like to determine what components of WordPress are responsible for the overload. Is there a profiling plug-in or utility? What are the memory usage implications of caching (wp-cache or similar)?

While I'm not aware of any profiling plugin for WP, I'm suspicious of your host having an 8MB memory limit. While this is indeed the webserver default, it's also likely to be a little "stingy" in a real production environment.

There's a been lots of topics on WP/memory/performance. Read these for starters:

    server overload
    Fatal Memory Error
    WordPress running slow
    WordPress memory usage problem
