# PHP memory problems on 1and1

 * Hey guys I would just like to offer a solution I found to the memory problems
   I was having. After installing two widgets I couldn’t install any more. I was
   getting blanks pages, couldn’t access areas of wordpress etc..
 * I tried all the solutions on offer adding lines to code here and there but nothing
   worked.
 * I contacted 1and1 and here is the solution that worked
 * 1. Open Notepad
    2. Type in “AddType x-mapp-php5 .php” 3. Click on File > Save
   As 4. Under drop down menu for “Save as type” select “All files” 5. Under File
   name type in “.htaccess” 6. Click Save.
 * This worked straight away and have my site now up and running perfect
 * hope this helps someone

 * **For some people that will crash their website! **
    That is telling the web 
   server to use php version 5 for files .php Sounds like your hosting company is
   by default set to use PHP 4. They are way behind the times….

 * Im using 1and1 so maybe I should point out that it was a 1and1 server that I 
   used this on .
    Thanks for pointing that out webjunk. Im a total newbie when 
   it comes to this stuff,and didnt really know what it did lol. Was just trying
   to help out as i have had so much help with my first website.
