http://phpthumb.sourceforge.net/ has a pretty sophisticated class for image resizing/resampling and manipulation.
Since the new editor alows users to specify image sizes arbitrarily, it would be easy for a non-technical user to post a huge image, resize it to be much smaller, and waste everyones’s bandwidth. Since the resize dimentions are known, it should be easy to pass them on to phpThumb.php to resample the image.
Or has this been done?
