# PHP file question

 * Hi,
 * I’m a complete novice with WordPress (though very experienced with Moveable Type)
   and trying to help a friend out with his site. I’ve logged into his dashboard
   but can’t locate the php files for editing. Do I need to FTP into the server 
   to get those or can they be accessed through the dashboard?

 * They can be accessed through the Dashboard, but if you want to alter the PHP 
   files in a theme, you really should create a child theme. This is essential if
   you are using one of the default themes (2011, 2010) as your basis.
