It’s very strange, as it seems it worked for you previously.
Try to reinstall the plugin (removing it, and installing again). Make sure to preserve your settings (do NOT delete them when uninstalling and deleting the WP Mail SMTP plugin).

I had deactivated the plugin because it was the source of the conflict that caused the site to not work properly , but do I need to delete it completely?? If so Im not sure how to delete the plugin and keep the settings??

When a plugin is deactivated – it’s not loaded and does NOT cause any compatibility issues. WP Mail SMTP has a Settings > Misc page, where you uncheck (unchecked by default) the setting to delete all plugin options when the plugin is removed. Nothing is changed in DB when you deactivate the plugin. Options may be only removed when you delete the plugin (if setting in admin area is checked).

What kind of conflict did you have when WP Mail SMTP was activated?

my web host sent me the errors above and then I deactivated because it was causing problems with people reseting passwords and the general operation of the site… when I first installed it worked fine

then about the 13h the site started wigging out and google is reporting errors again… still trying to get to the bottom of it all but if I activate this plugin it triggers a lot of malfunction

This file missing IS actually in a release version of a plugin.

So the issue is server-side, like some sort of caching or long files path support. That’s definitely not a plugin territory and I can’t help you more.

Do you have any other Google/Gmail related plugins activated on your site?
