    Hello,

    Got a white screen and found this in the error logs:

    PHP Fatal error: Can’t use function return value in write context in /mysitepath/wp-content/plugins/bbp-style-pack/includes/functions_unread.php on line 17

    Any ideas what might be causing this or what I can do to fix it?

    Thanks for any help.

    It is from earlier than last update.

    I need to work out when it is happening.

    Have you just changed unread options to ‘allow users to opt in’ or has this been the case for longer?

    And can you tell me what you were doing when this diaplayed – posting, looking at profile etc.

    and can you replicate it?

    I haven’t changed any settings in a couple months. Seemed to get the 500 today after update. Happened after a visited site, after update. I am restoring files now to previous version, but will post back with any details. Thanks!

    ok, thanks

    Only way I can access site is to delete plugin. Otherwise, I get a 500 error. I keep getting the error I mentioned earlier in log files. Any ideas on how I can troubleshoot this issue?

    do you know how to ftp and change a file ?

    and are/were you using the unread function ?

    Yes, I can use ftp and change a file. Yes, I was using the unread function. Any suggestions?

    Also, if it helps, I disabled almost all plugins and used default theme, and the error still existed.

    Thanks for any help with this.

    can you switch debug on, so that we are sure that this is the error

    in case you don’t know, find wp-config.php in the root of your site

    Copy this file to your pc, and open up with any editor.

    Find the line

    define( 'WP_DEBUG', false );

    and change it to

    define( 'WP_DEBUG', true );

    copy the file back to your site

    Instead of the blank page, you will now see the error causing this.

    Just confirm that this is as before, or let me know what it is

    debug was already enabled. But I tried enabling WP_DEBUG_DISPLAY

    When I reactivated the plugin, now everything works fine. There are no issues any more.

    I’m not sure what caused this or why it started working again, but I’m relieved either way. My web hosting company might have rebooted server which might have something to do with it.

    Anyway, thank you for you help. I’d leave a great review if I could, but I already did a while back.

    hmm..one of those when you never know what caused it.

    Do come back if you have further issues

    Yes, it concerns me but I’m also happy that it works now. bbPress is almost worthless to us without bbp style pack

    Thanks again for the great plugin and the great support!
