Support » Plugin: WordPress Share Buttons Plugin – AddThis » PHP Compatibility Checker; OK to ignore warning(s) before PHP7 update?

  • Hi Share Buttons by AddThis plugin author(s):

I’m wanting to know if there are any significant reasons or concerns why I should not upgrade my site to PHP7, after reading this article:

    https://wpengine.com/support/php-7-faq/

… and running this PHP 7 test plugin:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/php-compatibility-checker/

    … and seeing these warnings:

    FILE: /nas/content/staging/fipweb/wp-content/plugins/addthis/addthis_social_widget.php
    ————————————————————————————————————————————————–
FOUND 0 ERRORS AND 2 WARNINGS AFFECTING 2 LINES
    ————————————————————————————————————————————————–
1986 | WARNING | Function name “__return_false” is discouraged; PHP has reserved all method names with a double underscore prefix for future use
1994 | WARNING | Function name “__return_true” is discouraged; PHP has reserved all method names with a double underscore prefix for future use
    —————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————————

    … associated with the plugin:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/addthis/

Please advise if these warnings can be safely ignored before updating to PHP7.

    THANKS! 🙂

    Hi Bruce.

Thanks for reaching out to us.

There warning are for the 5.0 versions of this plugin. Those weren’t consistently tested on PHP7, so I can’t tell you for certain if these warnings effected anything.

Yesterday we released version 6.0.0 and it is tested thoroughly on PHP7. I suggest you give the newest version a try.

    Thanks,
    Julka
