Php code and database

Hi all, I have written php code to call the database to extract certain data, ive outputted data into an xml file that im using for an iphone app. Im not strong in wordpress do’s and donts, but my problem is that the outputted data isnt the latest entry/story for my site. Any direction/guide would be appreciated.
