 * Yes. You may find issues with some themes or plugins, but WP core itself is 8.0
   compatible.

 * Probably not for a few years, though it goes [EOL](https://endoflife.software/programming-languages/server-side-scripting/php)
   at the end of this month and loses security support a year later.
