# PHP 5.4 Update Problems

 * My host server (bluehost) has told me I need to upgrade to PHP 5.4 as they are
   phasing out the use of 5.2 by next week. However when I do upgrade my website
   just shows a blank white screen.
 * Bluehost has said this is commonly plug-ins or themes that need to be updated
   but I’ve updated everything and the problem remains.
 * How can I tell which plug-in/theme/third party script it is that is causing this
   problem? I am running the Mystique 3.1 theme with Akismet 2.5.9, Custom iFrame
   Widget 1.1, Google Calendar Events 0.7.2, iframe 2.7, Jetpack 2.6.1, MapPress
   Easy Google Maps 2.40.7, Simple Backup 2.7.7 and WordPress Importer 0.6.1.

   with the assumption I know nothing

 * To troubleshoot, please switch to default unedited theme and deactivate all plugins.
   Then, activate theme. Test site. Then activate plugins _one at a time_. Test 
   Site. When the site breaks, you have found the culprit.
 * Also, did you force a restart of all server processes after update to 5.4?

 * I have the same issue here, I also use bluehost and they emailed me that their

   to switch theme.

   thread.

   solved my problem by removed a plugin. I looked at my error_log file from ftp
   and saw an error pointing to a flicker plugin. Then I removed it, the site went
   back. Hope this can help [@rob](https://wordpress.org/support/users/rob/) Palmer.
