• when i attempt to upload photos using browser option i receive an error of

Unable to create directory /var/www/vhosts/bridgedssportsphotography.com/httpdocs/blog/wp-content/uploads. Is its parent directory writable by the server?

i’ve done some of the suggestions in other postings, like change the dashboard settings, but nothing has helped. any advice? also, i’ve upgraded to the 2.9.2 version today. i’m new to wordpress and sadly, i’m extremely disappointed in ease of use…someone help change my mind!

I think I interpreted that correctly. Return the uploads path back to the correct default in the dashboard settings. Now temporarily change the permissions on the wp-content directory to 777 (666 will probably work fine as well – it’s only temporary anyhow). Now upload an image, and unless there are permissions errors on the server or the default path is incorrect, I think WordPress should now create an uploads directory at /wp-content/uploads, and place the image inside it in the manner you have chosen in the dashboard settings (dated month and year directories if you selected that option). Confirm that WordPress created the directory and uploaded the image, and then change the permissions on wp-content back to 755. Don’t leave it at 777.

I can’t think of any reason why that wouldn’t work.

Where do I access the content directory to change the permissions?

Use ftp or your host provided file manager to navigate to your wordpress installation – /httpdocs/blog/wp-content

thanks claytonjames. apparently permissions are handled by bigfolio who set up the blog for me…and they are working on that portion for me. sorry to be so simple in this!
