Support » Fixing WordPress » Photo Upload button

  • Nothing happens when I click the Photo Upload Button. I’ve had my blog for 2 years and never had any problems but now when I click on the “upload photo” button, nothing happens. No media uploader box pops up or anything. I’m not tech saavy at all so I have no idea how to fix it. I read the main thread at the top about Photo uploading problems and I didn’t see one mentioning not being able to click the button at all…. and I have no idea how to do pretty much any of those solutions anyways. : S
I haven’t been able to blog for my business for a month. Please help! Much appreciated.

Go here, http://javatester.org/version.html and test your java.

Did you upgrade to wp 3.1 or upgrade any plugins lately?

    What is your url?

I think the problem started around when I upgraded to wp 3.1 about a month ago.
I tested my Java and it says it’s Java Version 1.5.0_28
    My URL is http://www.jessicazaisblog.com
    Thank you for your help!

That is a pretty old version. Perhaps you should upgrade it here, http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp

I clicked the link to download it but it said Mac has their own version of Java so that actually is up to date on my computer. Darn- I was hoping it was that simple! haha. Any other ideas?

The normal debug is to turnoff all plugins and switch to the twentyten theme. If it works with twentyten then add plugins back one by one until it breaks or doesn’t.

OK thank you- I’ll try that. I don’t use the twentyten theme but I will try uploading a different version of the theme I use and see if that works.

No, the whole idea is to see if it works with the standard default theme that is pretty much bullet proof. Then we know if it is a theme problem.

The twentyten loads with 3.1 so it should be (check this) in wp-content/themes. If so, you can just rename your themes folder and wp will default the to the twentyten theme. To get your theme back, change the name back to the original.

You can also do this on the dashboard under appearence.

Gotcha. Ok so I tried that and it still didn’t work with the twentyten theme so I switched it back to my other theme again.

I am in the exact same boat. been posting images for well over a year, and now…can’t do it.

“upgraded” to 3.1, and can’t believe this would happen. seems like something this important to blogging would have been tested.

the stickied article is from like wp 2.6 or something, so not a lot of help. searching has brought no help – just complicated stuff I don’t understand.

seems like this is something that could cause simpletons like myself to take our blogs elsewhere.

    anyone have a fix?

@jessicazais – did you turn off all your plugins?

    @markjohnston

3.1 works for thousands of websites and was tested by many people. Next time maybe you could test it also.

Same advice for you. Turn off all plugins and switch to default theme. Try it.

thanks kmessinger, I have tried that with no luck.

I am reading this in a lot of places about the 3.1 update. I’m very surprised it got past the testing, but I guess these things happen.

    On a Mac try Chrome.

I know it’s stupid, but ONE of my blogs (the least complicated, using very few plugins, with a Twenty Ten child theme) now has sporadic, weird, issues with image uploads of larger files. Switch to Chrome and it was just fine. Safari had a hussy fit.

@kmessinger THANK YOU SO MUCH!! I had forgotten to do the plug in part of your instructions so I did it again and turned the plug-ins back on one by one and it worked until I activated the Grooveshark plugin. So I deleted that one and it works again with my own theme for uploading photos. Whooohoooo. You rock!! I really appreciate you taking the time to help.
@ Markjohnston and Ipstenu- best of luck. Hope you guys figure out your WP issues soon too!
