Support » Fixing WordPress » Phantom comments?

  • On my recent comments, there is one listed which links to a porn site. By hovering over the link, I can see which comment number it is in my datbase, but when I log into the WP-admin dashboard, it’s not listed under the comments. I tried plugging in the address for deleting a comment & just changing the numbers to match the post/comment, but WP won’t allow me to do that b/c of the lack of a referrer.

    Two part question from this…
    1) Without it showing up on the admin dashboard, how am I supposed to delete it? I was thinking I could temporarily disable the requirement for referrers, delete the comment manually, & then turn that back on…..but in searching, I can’t find how to disable the referrer requirement.
    2) I’m assuming this spammer put HTML code into the comment box that somehow masked it from WP & keeps it from showing up on my admin page. Does anyone know how they did that? If I know what kind of code they used, I figure I can just include those words in the blacklist to prevent it in the future.

Blog is at if you need to see the phantom comment (from “Gabriele Matyka”).

Thanks in advance for any help or suggestions you can provide!
