Hi. I have donated to you and your plugin and i want to have some impact on changes.

I’m using classic share buttons on my page. I’ve configurated them very long time ago and effect is good.

You can check my site url and see if you remember me.

    https://swiadomosc-zwiazkow.pl/anders-breivik-zostal-morderca-przez-rodzicow/

As you can see i have many icons on top of the page and facebook like box inserted by your plugin in share buttons configuarion.

I don’t think if new version of your plugin can replicate all of this and make it look so good as this version.

    Hi @matrixpoland,

Classic sharebar is a powerful feature and you can customize to the fullest. But it is being deprecated for below reasons.

    1) New users find it difficult to onbaord with the extensive options provided. It takes time even to set it up and many time users do not use the feature to the fullest capacity.

    2) Native social buttons like like buttons, tweet buttons are not very popular and things are moving towards social icons.

The new social icons feature aims to solve the above problems.
It is easy and quick to setup with all the features of the classic share bar except that the “native buttons” which I mentioned above cannot be added.

In your case, you have social icons and below that you have facebook widget.

With the new social icons feature, you can add social icons just like how you have currently. Please do explore it once.
But the facebook widget below cannot be added. For this may be I can provide certain settings in the next version to add custom HTML before/after the social icons.

So please to stick to classic buttons for now and move to the new social icons once the above option is added in next version.

To conclude, social icons are the way going forward and they have the same features as existing “social icons” button but very intuitive and easy. Any recommendation over that can be implemented.

Thanks for using WP Socializer !

If we can set them like in actual version (these are big icons which is good) + custom icons (not only sharing but URL Link like on minds.com) + facebook like box then ok. I’m only worried about appeareance and functionality.

    Hello!

Is it possible to add these new social buttons to a sidebar widget? I would need that.

    Cheers, Arne

    Hi Arne,

You can add follow us icons, facebook widget, twitter widget to the sidebar for now.

Social icons cannot be added right now.

I will include support soon for this.

    Thanks,
    Aakash

Hi, and thanks to Matrixpoland for opening this ticket where a couple people will certainly feel concerned. Hopefully you let the classic version still as part of the plugin to give us time to adapt, but hopefully also you to adapt as usual to our needs.

In my use-case, the single most important thing to be saved is the shortcode option. I use your plugin with a shortcode, for social icons now but please keep all available shortcodes from the classic editor and include them in the new version.

for now I had to re-enable the classic editor and change the initial shortcode from [wpsr_socialbts] to something more specific like [wpsr_button id=”sb-17″] to make it work.

I didn’t notice anything else in my use-case until now.

Hoping to read your shortcode implementation in next release ! 🙂

    Hi Vaaakash,

I’ll probably continue to write on this thread since it could be the one grouping all V4 update comments.

I noticed that you also simplified the floating sharebar, why not.. bit for now I use the classic one for two reasons I saw :

    – We can’t select icon size anymore (this can be fixed with CSS but the option was more user-friendly)
    – I don’t want to display share count since it’s often a counter-productive option. this useful only for hight trafic sites, while having no or little shares gives a bad impression. Some plugins offer even the advanced option to display share counts only above a certain value.
So please keep this option as it is essential as explained, and can even be a simple style preference to.

I’ll try to keep you updated in coming month to ensure best switch to the new version. Aside of that I would eventually suggest to keep the old editors as “Advanced” onces for more tricky users…

I hope that my comments will help you in your implementation choices.
    All best !

    Hi @tdechangy,

With the new sharebar all your requests are already there.

#1 – Changing the icon size.

    https://i.snipboard.io/2FVG8H.jpg

    #2 – Disabling share count

    https://i.snipboard.io/DARGvP.jpg

In new version things are more simple and easy.

Please do let me know if I mistook your query.

    Thanks,
    Aakash

    – Indeed, I missed the hide Share counts option.

    – What I ment with icon size was giving the icon its size separately from its container. I believe that this was set under custom sets @ “Layouts, text and icon” > Font size (Normal, small, large).

Here is the code that I see for font sizes set to small in a 48px width “Icon size” in the options you showed.

    .sr-48px.sr-font-sm a {
        font-size: 16px;
    }

+ About the share counter option, while I wont be much keen to use it often for the reason developed last time, can you please make all words that appear on frontend translatable using WPML pls (easy explanations can be found @ WPML website > making plugins translatable) ? As this is mandatory to use on a multilingual site it would be much appreciated to avoid searching for alternative solutions while I find this one pretty straight forward as you try to keep it so.

    (@vaakash)

Ok. Regarding “icon size” yes currently that option is not there because I noticed that the option was not very impactful in the output. Also, I don’t think many people were using it. I can provide you CSS as per user requests.

Regarding translation on frontend, most of the text on the front end (the text next to icon, text shown upon hover) can be changed as per the user needs. Please see screenshot below. You can provide your own native text there.

    https://i.snipboard.io/xIiktL.jpg

I’ll also explore how feasible the implemention for WPML is and the scope of the audience.

    @matrixpoland,

With WP Socializer version 5.1, I’ve added options which can help get similar results for social icons like in classic sharebuttons feature.

#1 – You can paste the “facebook page widget” in the social icons settings, scroll down –> “custom HTML above and below”.

    Screenshot – https://i.snipboard.io/sZfjla.jpg

#2 – For the custom social icons, you can use the “custom HTML” button and add your image tag.

    Screenshot – https://i.snipboard.io/IPT68F.jpg

Any queries in migrating. Let me know.
In the month of may, old features will be removed for cleanup.

    Thanks,
    Aakash

    (@matrixpoland)

On my site i have shortcodes too from plugin shortcodes ultimage. Can you add that option to either be below or above icons?

Second question is to make custom html codes for icons easier.

    We would
    – upload own icon by function
    – set url by function
    – set cloud box /descirption by function

I know many people know html and can code that but maybe can you make it to set automaticcly

    !!!
Still waiting for an answer on this major topic before removing the old versions, as seen that you are willing to do this for May.

    Shortcodes

In my use-case, the single most important thing to be saved is the shortcode option. I use your plugin with a shortcode, for social icons now but please keep all available shortcodes from the classic editor and include them in the new version.

for now I had to re-enable the classic editor. It would be so sad to have to stick to an older version of your plugin only for that reason.

    Best regards.

    Hi @tdechangy,

Can you share a screenshot on how you are using shortcodes to build social icons on your site ?

The plan is to remove all the old shortcodes, clean the slate and start fresh and introduce new features and shorcodes which will be helpful than before.

I can help you move away from the current implementation if you can share me how you use the plugin.

    Thanks,
    Aakash

    (@tdechangy)

    Hi Vaakash,
Well it’s pretty simple, I use share-icons shortcodes at the bottom of blog posts to ensure its exact positioning between different cal to actions (CTA).
It is the same reason why I need Shortcodes for any kind of CTA there.

I hope this makes enough sense without a screenshot.

    Regards.

    Plugin Author vaakash

    (@vaakash)

    Hi @tdechangy,

I’m sorry but this is a decision that is a must for the plugin. Those old shortcodes will be in effective in the next version.

Not many people were using the “native social buttons” which were provided by the social media sites.

They have to be delivered in a different way.

I can suggest the following for you.

    #1 – Install shortcoder – https://wordpress.org/plugins/shortcoder/

#2 – Create a shortcode for every social media site you want, get the script from their website and add it to the shortcode. You can replace the page URL with the shortcode parameters. For example, for facebook you can get the script from this page – https://developers.facebook.com/docs/plugins/like-button/ Similarly for other services you can just do a Google search and get it from their website.

#3 – Add the shortcode wherever you want.

    Please do try them.

    Thanks,
    Aakash
