  • when you setup a new blog i forget now what folders and files do you have to set permissions on to make sure things can be access, written too, uploads work etc?

  • Generally all directories should be 755 and all files should be 644 with the exception of wp-content and some it’s sub-directories (wp-content/uploads comes to mind). 777 is effectively wide open.

    If you want to be really security conscious you could make wp-content 755, see what breaks, and then grant less restrictions as necessary…

    YMMV depending on your host. Different hosts will attach different credentials to files created by scripts.
