  • hello there

    i am going crazy with the comments posted on my blogs, i have like 10 blogs and the amount of spam posted is incredible, now i have done the following in order to fix the issue, but did not work at all:

    1) i deleted the comments template from the presentation > templates editor, so that the form field is not present anymore

    2) i have first emptied from mysql all the comments for all blogs and then i ran this command :

    Globally disable comments for all users
    UPDATE wp_posts SET comment_status = ‘closed’;

    from the sql line but nothing happened, so what is the best way for fixing this once and for all? deleting the wp_comments from sql? i really do not want have to deal with this anymore so we need a good STRONG fix

  • Why don’t you just register and turn on the Akismet plugin, download and activate the Bad Behavior plugin and/or some other anti spam plugin. It’s not just comment spam, you’ll also get pingback and trackback spam, so just disabling comments won’t fix everything.

    [edit] Why do you yourself spam these forums with double posts?

    thanks, i just wanted to be sure to get an answer, i know that plugin but i preferred to use something more hardcore than can totally disable the comments function. – i still cant figure out how they can post comments if the comments template is empty now.

    It’s not just the template that you’re looking for. My guess is that you have to scan all files to remove the comment codes.

    yeah you might be right however i installed badbehavious+akismet and no comments so far on the blog that had the most comments, so “so far so good”

    If you don’t want comments at all, you should be able to just turn them off in your dashboard under “Settings > Discussion.”

    You can disable all comments’ link by using “Disable spam comments link for WordPress”.
