permanent banner on main page

hi Micah,
Is there a way to place a banner that I can activate on our main page when wanted?
Next to our company logo there is space to insert holiday greetings etc & I’d like to put a banner there that I can change appropriate to the season.
If you can give me a very simple way to do this & explain simply, I don’t have access to a programmer at the moment so will have to do it myself.
Your explanations refer to actual posts so this I believe is different.
