• When i change a permalink from mydomain.com/newcars to mydomain.com/newestcars it puts a number like 1 or 2 on teh end like mydomain.com/newestcars-2

I have checked and don’t have any other pages or posts using that name.

  • Hi there,

When WordPress adds a number like “-2” in the slug, that means you still have the old content by the same name in the draft, trash, etc.

Check and please try again after removing or changing it.

You should also check the database posts table to locate the items with “-2” in the permalink. πŸ™‚

it’s just found Permalink Manager Lite and that works great

    Hi there!

Deleting revisions doesn’t have any relation to those permalinks, but it can disturb if you have old content by the same name in the draft, trash, etc.

Since your problem is solved now, you don’t need to do anything. πŸ™‚

    Hi Animesh

sorry that Permalink Manager never worked the way i wanted it to.

I have found the URL in the database and changed it but still show old URL and i think i need to save it as a certain type like when you change a password in the database you save it as MD5 but not sure what to save my URL change has ? would you know.

    Hi there

Have you done the following process?

    Go to wp_posts in phpMyAdmin.

Click the Edit button on the post that has the same URL.

Go to the post_name section and change the name there: https://prnt.sc/t81uwa

Scroll down and click on the Go button: https://prnt.sc/t81vfs

There shouldn’t be any problem after all these steps.

It is working on my side and no additional steps required.

Can you please check again all steps? πŸ™‚
