• Unexpected problem popped up.

WordPress is installed in my root directory. I have subdirectories with files that I link to from the root WordPress installation. Until last night this worked fine.

Now URLs to files (images and video files) located in a subdirectory suddenly no longer work. WordPress interprets them as permalinks within itself and cannot find them, returning the Post Not Found message. This only happens with new posts. Posts made as recently as last week do not have this problem and reference the subdirectory files perfectly.

    Example:
    http://human-dog.com/2009/09/30/weagel-show-st-003-my-way/

    Posted last night.
Clicking on the Download Quicktime/iPod link should take you to:
    http://www.human-dog.com/show/ipodb/2009/HD-WS-ST003-MyWay.mov

Instead WordPress returns a cannot find message. I suspect it thinks this a link to an internal post(?)

While a post made just last week:
    http://human-dog.com/2009/09/24/weagel-show-st-002-gratuitous/

Has a similar link to a file in a subdirectory that works just fine.

I have everything backed up and attempted to upgrade WordPress last night. Hasn’t solved it.

Have I been hacked? Should I clean the whole thing out and start over? Nothing I’ve found only quite addresses this problem.

    Thanks.

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – resetting your custom permalinks to the default setting? If that works, then set your custom permalink structure back up again.

resetting the plugins folder by FTP or phpMyAdmin? Sometimes, an apparently inactive plugin can still cause problems.
