Support » Fixing WordPress » Permalinks, .htaccess, phpMyAdmin, and Internal server error

  • I have a website on which I’m trying to create a static homepage, a blog (called ‘tutorials’), and several other content pages (not posts). I was in the process of trying to setup permalinks, got the “can’t write to your .htaccess file” message, tried (seemingly unsuccessfully) to add a .htaccess file and edit the permissions (to 666), and am now unable to nav to any of the posts or content pages. I can get the homepage. I can see the .htaccess file now in Filezilla (couldn’t before) and have reset my permalinks to default, but I still can’t see the content and post pages.

At one point I followed advice (this link) to change some settings in my database through phpMyAdmin, and since this didn’t resolve anything I’ve now tried to set those back.

Can anyone offer any suggestions? I’ve searched a bit but I can’t seem to find anything to help isolate the problem. Thanks in advance.

  • *Magic* I cranked up my site on a different computer like an hour later and it works. I’m sure there’s a more sophisticated answer to this, and please pass along if you know it.
