I have wp set up on my own domain and for each blog i write i want the postname in the permalink and not the number, now I know how to do this in the settings the trouble is when i do it and then it gives me the new permalinks it takes me to a page with no file on. Someone said there is a file or something I have to edit to allow wp to write new permalinks? Can anyone help me by shedding any light on what I have to do to change my permalink settings from the default to what I want

    Thanks in advance

If WordPress cannot automatically update your .htaccess file, it will provide manual instructions after saving. More info:

Use a plain text editor to create a file named htaccess with the content that WordPress tells you to place in the file after saving the permalink structure.

Then, use an FTP or SFTP client to upload the file to the same directory as your wp-login.php file.

Once it's uploaded, change the file's name to .htaccess (add the dot in front).
