  • Hi – I want to change my site links from to just

I went into Permalink Settings, applied the code /%postname%/ to the Custom Structure field. Then, I get a message I need to update web.config and my site breaks.

Restoring the permalinks to default fixes my site.

I don’t see any web.config file in the WordPress directory. What folder would it be under and what do I need to modify in it?

Why does my site not just update the links without this step? Thanks!

  • I have the same problem but even if you fix this problem thers is bug on wordpres that not redirect your old permalinks to new ones

I found a web.config file and placed it in the root WP folder, then went back and edited the Permalink Settings – and nothing.

    More info:

We changed the URL of our site from something like to and my sysadmin said the files didn’t move, but the URL now points to the new domain.

In the address bar, the site shows up as, which is good, but all other pages display as (for example).

    In General settings, I have:

    WordPress Address (URL):
    Site Address (URL):

How do I get my site’s page to display as I know I can set the Permalinks, and have tried, but they are not working, and I’m thinking I need to change the General setting URL(s) first.
