Support » Fixing WordPress » Permalinks don’t work, even default & htaccess may be blank

  • My permalinks do not work. I’ve read many post on permalinks in the support forums. I read the Permalinks page. I tried changing the permissions on my htaccess file. My host is Total Choice Hosting, which I access via FTP and it has Apache. When I opened the htaccess file, it appeared to be blank. I tried pasting the code for a pretty permalink, but nothing happened. I deleted that code and went back to default. WP says Permalink Structure Updated, but they still don’t work. When I create a new post and click Preview Post, nothing comes up. Posts previewed fine before the latest upgrade. All of the posts read correctly on the main page of my blog. None are long enough to need a “more” section, so I’ve never had to click on that. The only time I tried to access a permalink before the upgrade was in the sidebar with a category cloud. It didn’t work, so I deleted it and moved on. I can’t seem to get a tag cloud to even generate(if that’s helpful info) but I really am only concerned about the permalinks not working.
I am barely (i.e. dangerously) adept at this, so need some patient, basic advice.

    Thanks!
