Support » Fixing WordPress » Permalinks broken after move from Linux to Windows

  • Recently moved from Linux hosted wordpress site to a Windows platform IIS7. Database and site files moved over ok and the site seems to be working ok for the most part including administration. However, permalinks seem to be broken. Any post I try to access gives me a 404 error. Tried going back to default as well as different URL configurations and updating web.config with the provided code. This has not seemed to work. If I go into administration I can see each and every post that I cannot link to. Any ideas to troubleshoot would be great. Thanks.

  • I just did this the opposite way from Windows to Linux and had the same problem. I fixed it by going to settings and then permalinks. I changed the setting to default and saved it. Then I changed it back to my original setting and everything worked again. Hope this works for you.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I did that and checked individual posts in admin mode and I can see that the permalinks update ok. Doesn’t seem to make a difference though. With default permalink I get a 404 error, with any of the others or custom I get a wordpress error stating there is nothing there.
